Give me an A!!

What do you do for extremely excitable/adorable seven year old niece/god daughter's Birthday?

Happy Birthday Akiya Peach!!
That question has been plaguing me, I just started making things from paper so I kept feeling my ideas were somewhat limited. I was making the tissue paper flowers just in case and then I thought duh, pom poms!! Kiya will love them and like most paper projects they were low on cost and difficulty but are beautiful! I stayed up late last night making them and I swear it felt like Christmas this morning when I saw them!!

Departure from the norm

I love mosaics! As soon as I learn how to use my husband's wet tile saw I'll be a busy and happy gal.
I have been working on this paper mosaic for some time every now and then when I find the time or have the desire to do so.
I saw a picture of the real life mosaic and have been working on a paper version off and on for about two years these are tiny pieces of paper.
This is my first paper mosaic I really just loved the process. Tiny pieces of paper and an exacto knife it was tideous but well worth it!! I love this because it doesn't matter that I really can't draw it's more about filling in the outline, which was a sloppy sketch initially then I just covered it up.
Not as much detail as the peacock~ I made this for a humanities project.
 EGG SHELL, NOT PAPER??

While I was working on my decapauge eggs I found some shells on the floor and after some investigation learned that my husband broke one. While I was picking up the shells I had an idea...........what if I could some how piece this back together and what if I did it on a shoe??

I can at least cover the scuff marks
maybe this could work
Finally done!!

making progress
First side done
So I've only finished one shoe thus far and it was a bit timely but I love it!! I only wore these shoes once and my niece used them for dress up (hence the scuffs) so I thought why not?!

novice

Novice:
a person who is new to or inexperienced in a certain task, situation, etc; beginner

Beginner seems appropriate. I have been trying new things and experiencing the joy of trial and error.
I found an Expert paper crafter http://ultimatepapermache.com/ and followed the directions given for a paper mache clay (which by the way is awesome) I immediately went out and got the ingredients for the wonder clay. Just getting the ingredients was an adventure so I knew the clay had to be good stuff. I followed the directions implicitly then applied the clay to ballons in order to make the hot air balloon mobile. This process took forever but I did it I had three paper mache clay hot air balloons, the balloons were taking forever to dry and according to the expert I had to be sure that they dried or elese they could rot. The expert said that to ensure the items dry put them in the oven...... well I put them in the oven but like a NOVICE I forgot to pop the balloons and of course in the heat they expanded and of course the clay spread and broke apart. First trial. I didn't take any pictures because I was too upset. :)

Pigyata

I was going to an I <3 Pig art show and wanted to contribute so I brought a pigyata filled with - what else- pork rinds (ew). I also at the last minute thought it would be fun to make pig noses for the guests they were adorable.

Paper mache pigyata
I wish I had a better pictures but in all my excitement I forgot to take a photo and had to request these from a friend.
made from wrapping paper tube and tissue paper
I need to pick up some elastic string because I will have to make these again or maybe something similar.

Lastly My niece Akiya's beach Birthday is right around the corner and I'm trying to come up with something I started making these flowers but I'm thinking that they're not going to work I'll keep you posted.
